About Us

We established Oculus in 2017. As procurement practitioners, we believed that all businesses could benefit from strong procurement practices and should have access to procurement talent.

However, we’re realists. We understood that investing in a procurement team is a significant investment and is inaccessible for many businesses, never mind the cost of the interim market of the large consultancy firms. Some companies may not even realise the value that strong procurement practices can deliver for them!

We believed there was a gap in the market for someone to provide businesses with low-cost, high-capability, procurement services. We thought that we could take our years’ of experience working within a wide range of industry sectors within management consultancy, in-house procurement teams and procurement transformation programmes and offer this as a service to businesses who wanted to improve their procurement practices or provide them with flexible, high-quality, procurement support.

And so, it went from there.

Meet the directors

Mark Coates

Mark Coates

Mark is a seasoned Head of Procurement who has significant experience of managing a number Procurement transformation programmes and an impressive track record of delivering significant and sustainable savings across a range of industries and spend categories including Facilities, HR, IT, Marketing and Professional Services.

Most recently for Oculus, Mark had led a strategic transformation and cost-saving review on behalf of a venture capitalist at one of the UK’s leading property and facilities management providers (see case study).

Before Oculus, Mark has worked for a variety of ‘blue chip’ organisations in terms of leading their procurement agenda and has spent a vast number of years advising a range of organisations on a consultancy basis.

Luke Foster

Luke Foster

Having graduated in Procurement and Supply Chain Management from Liverpool John Moore’s University in 2012, Luke commenced his career as a Graduate Procurement Manager at one of the UK’s largest 3PL organisations, before moving into financial services.

Since the start of his procurement career in 2012, Luke has gained experience across a wide array of categories, primarily focussing on HR, facilities and professional services, specialising in data analytics, cost modelling and policy design. Luke has worked on projects for clients across a variety of industry sectors including, manufacturing, financial & professional services and retail.

Within Oculus Procurement, Luke’s primary operational role is that of the companies Finance Director and leads on all Marketing activity.

Matthew Hardaker

Matthew Hardaker

Matthew is a seasoned procurement manager who has spent the last two years with Oculus leading a range of procurement transformation and maturity-assessment programmes.

Most recently, Matthew has led a procurement transformation programme for one of the UK’s largest insurance intermediary, insurance broking and underwriting groups.

Before forming Oculus, Matthew has held senior procurement positions within high-performing procurement teams across a range of sector-leading organisations across Transport, Logistics, and Financial Services sectors, including FCA regulated environments.

Our highly experienced team hold over 40 years of combined procurement experience with professional qualifications with the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS).
